Coming up: Summer School 2018

The various challenges in the implementation of a sustainable bioeconomy in different countries is the focus of this year’s BBW ForWerts summer school entitled "Visions in Bioeconomy: Learning from the best - What defines the best?”. Starting from best practice examples from Scandinavia, Brazil, Colombia, China and Germany the summer school aims to identify major bottlenecks towards the implementation of a sustainable bioeconomy. Both global and regional aspects will be taken into account through a critical evaluation and comparison of national bioeconomy strategies and regional action platforms.

The summer school program combines lectures, discussion and group work as well as short pitches. Participants will study and compare current politically propagated strategies, critically evaluate practical and best practice examples for economic feasibility and sustainability and discuss the challenges of regional stakeholder alignment. The work carried out during the summer school will result in a White Paper, which will subsequently be distributed among bioeconomy stakeholders in the state of Baden-Württemberg and beyond.

On 30 July 2018, prior to the summer school, a workshop will be held, offering the opportunity to the BBW ForWerts community to mutually update each other on research projects and first encouraging results. BBW ForWerts graduate students as well as all visiting graduate students will give a five-minute overview of their thesis project and engage in a five-minute Q&A session on their topic afterwards.

The summer school is kindly funded by the Joachim Herz Stiftung. It is being organized by the Bioeconomy Graduate Program BBW ForWerts within the Bioeconomy Research Program Baden-Württemberg. The summer school will be held from 31 July to 3 August 2018 in Annweiler am Trifels. Applications can be submitted until 26 April 2018.
