The Ministry for Science, Research and Arts of the German federal state of Baden-Württemberg has provided funding for an interdisciplinary bioeconomy graduate program within the Bioeconomy Research Program Baden-Württemberg to support the development of this interdisciplinary research field. The resulting BBW ForWerts Graduate Program was launched in July, 2014. It fosters the education of scientists with strong focus on interdisciplinarity. This systemic approach encompasses the analysis of entire value chains including genotype/biomass selection, biomass production and conversion, and product development as well as analysis of economic, ecological, ethical, and societal aspects.
BBW ForWerts aims to attract the best and brightest young researchers from around the world to pursue doctoral studies in the German state of Baden-Württemberg by offering excellent research opportunities and extensive academic training in a vibrant and stimulating scientific environment. During the three-year program, BBW ForWerts graduate students will have the opportunity to participate in summer schools, workshops, method courses and excursions in order to gain not only in-depth insight into their own research fields, but also an overview of the other focus areas in the Bioeconomy Research Program. This interdisciplinary approach will enable the students to gain extensive knowledge on a broad range of bioeconocmic issues. Networking with fellow students, industrial partners and research institutions is also a crucial part of the BBW ForWerts Graduate Program.
