Projects in the Research Area Lignocellulose

Nineteen projects in six action fields are funded in the Research Area Lignocellulose within the first funding period and further five projects in the second funding period. Action field 1 deals with the production and provision of biomass. For this, potential analyses are conducted, the impact of biomass usage on biodiversity and soil ecology of forests are investigated as well as industrial and energy crops suited for agricultural production systems are developed. Action fields 2-4 involve decomposition, conditioning and conversion of biomass as well as the development of new products. Action field 5 focuses on agro-economicl analyses and market effects. Action field 6 prioritizes eco-assessments (product life cycle assessments, impacts on the hydrological cycle).
