Cluster for Bioeconomy Research, Innovation and Training Baden-Württemberg

According to a study commissioned by the European Commission, Baden-Württemberg is one of the six European regions with the highest “bioeconomy-maturity index”. This pioneering role in Baden-Württemberg was achieved, among other, by the research strategy "Bioökonomie im System aufstellen / Setting up bioeconomy in the system", which was funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts (MWK). With the research strategy, the state of Baden-Württemberg positioned itself in 2013 and developed its Bioeconomy profile. As part of the Bioeconomy Research Program Baden-Württemberg, research projects have been funded in two funding rounds (2014-2018 and 2018-2020). In addition, a successful concept for interdisciplinary cooperation and knowledge- and technology-transfer has been established and the Coordination Office Bioeconomy Research Baden-Württemberg was implemented. Another internationally recognized focus of the Baden-Württemberg research strategy is the establishment of innovative education and training concepts for the bioeconomy, e.g. through the joint graduate education within the framework of BBW ForWerts.

With its new State Strategy Sustainable Bioeconomy for Baden-Württemberg, the state government has presented a policy strategy that points the way to a sustainable, knowledge-based bioeconomy and its further development in Baden-Württemberg in June 2019. Building on the established network structures of the research program, the Cluster for Bioeconomy Research, Innovation and Training Baden-Württemberg will be established as part of the implementation of this State Strategy Sustainable Bioeconomy Baden-Württemberg. For this purpose, further partners are invited to participate.

In addition to regional cooperation in research, knowledge-transfer and education, it is the declared aim of the partners to promote cooperation with external and international partners and to support the implementation of the state strategy as an interdisciplinary think tank for Bioeconomy.
