The 1st Status Seminar of the Bioeconomy Research Program Baden-Württemberg

The 1st Status Seminar of the Bioeconomy Research Program Baden-Württemberg took place on the 29th October 2015 at the University of Hohenheim. Approximately one year after program start the first results of the 50 projects were presented and discussed in the frame of an internal meeting. Among the guests were the scientists participating in the program, as well as representatives of the Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Kunst Baden-Württemberg (MWK), the Projektträger Jülich and selected guests from industry.

The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Stephan Dabbert, the president of the University of Hohenheim, and Ministerialdirigent Michael Kleiner from MWK. The chair of the steering committee, Prof. Dr. Thomas Hirth, introduced the history of the Bioeconomy Research Program. The research areas and projects in the fields of biogas, lignocellulose, microalgae and modeling were then presented in short presentations and as posters.

The three best posters were selected for poster awards by the steering committee of the Bioeconomy Research Program Baden-Württemberg :

The first prize went to

  • Ilka Mühlemeier from the University of Stuttgart for the poster „Development of a bioreactor for the conversion of biogas“.

Two equal second prizes were given to

  • Caroline Janas from the University of Hohenheim for her poster „Profitability analysis to identify suitable sites for short rotation coppice in Baden-Württemberg“  and
  • Binfeng Guo from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) for the poster „Biorefinery of microalgae by means of hydrothermal liquefaction“.
