Cross-linking of CarboMoG (Carbon Flow Model of Germany)

CarboMoG (Carbon Flow Model of Germany) is a process-based dynamic material flow model. The model depicts carbon related energy and material flows within the German anthroposphere in 2015. Additionally, the exchange between the anthroposhere and atmosphere, lithosphere and foreign countries is modelled. The model can be downloaded as a Physical Input Output model from the website of Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT) (download).

This project identified interfaces between CarboMoG and various other models in the Competence Network Modeling the Bioeconomy. The model construction allows for analyzing the environmental and resource-related impacts of a transformation of an economy to a bioeconomy. Furthermore it contributed to the design and analysis of the scenarios to be developed within the program.

The modelling expertise relevant for the bioeconomy that is concentrated in Baden-Württemberg and the complementarity of the applied modelling approaches offer a unique opportunity for a closer co-operation of different research groups on the integrated modelling of bioeconomy. The aim of this competence network is to make the direct and indirect effects of biomass use in different applications accessible for evaluation. This will be the basis for analyzing further utilization paths and integrated bioeconomy scenarios. Such a framework allows the comparison of the economic advantages of different transformation pathways with their economic costs.
